Citizen meetings focused on values of peace, culture, civic responsibility, and social cohesion were at the heart of an awareness-raising tour organized by prominent figures from the Prefecture of Bassar on June 21 and 22, 2025. The delegation was led by the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene Pr  Tchin Darré.

Such meetings  are multiplying across all municipal capitals to engage with opinion leaders through dialogue. Street demonstrations—sometimes violent, leading to the destruction of public property, injuries, and sadly, deaths—are not the solution to the challenges facing our country.

The President of the Togolese Council, Faure  Essozimna  Gnassingbé, through his clear-sighted leadership and strategic governance, is launching initiatives supported by our partners to ensure that the youth of our country have meaningful opportunities. Little by little, social problems are being addressed. It is a major step taken by the Council President, and the work continues.

We must therefore support his momentum to make our country a hub in all areas. To achieve this, peace and stability are essential. We are thus called upon to cultivate peace and unity, and to support all efforts aimed at securing our country, Togo, rather than being misled by illusion peddlers on social media who incite instability.

This was the core message delivered to the people of Bassar during engagements with the CDQs, CDVs, CVDs, and grassroots communities across the four municipalities of the prefecture. Whether in Bandeli and Sanda on Saturday, June 21, or in Kabo and Bassar on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the message remained consistent: cultivate peace, preserve security, and promote unity across Bassar and all of Togo.

Speakers at these meetings especially urged the youth not to fall for manipulation from social media influencers promoting hatred, unrest, and civil disobedience. They were reminded of the laws in place that could hold accountable anyone who dares venture down this unlawful path.

The delegation emphasized the need to spread the message throughout all corners of the Bassar Prefecture: say no to the violence pushed by enemies of the Togolese people. The Bassar population, through its opinion leaders, expressed how touched they were by the message and assured the delegation of their full support for the Council President’s vision for a prosperous Togo.

No one else will build Togo in place of the Togolese people,” declared traditional chiefs and other opinion leaders present.

As a reminder, some political parties have called for a civil gathering on June 23, 2025. Likewise, some so-called influencers on social media have called for street protests on June 26, 27, and 28, which the people of Bassar firmly reject.
